Seven common causes to rule in or out for dogs and cats
1. Trauma – sharp or blunt
2. Age and/or breed related indolent erosions
3. Keratoconjunctivitis sicca
4. Foreign body (especially grass seed)
5. Distichiasis and/or ectopic cilia
6. Entropion
7. Infection/keratomalacia/melting ulcer – follows ulceration from other causes, especially in brachycephalic breeds
